The ancient myths of the Mabinogi often feel inaccessible and alien, but they hold rich, ancient lore and were probably teaching stories, aspects of which date back to Celtic prehistory and beyond, and yet they continue to hold profound story-medicine for us today.

In this first Tuesday evening salon, we'll get to know Rhiannon, the lead female character of the First and Third Branches of the Mabinogi. Ancient Horse Goddess, Otherworldly being, Initiator, Sovereignty of the Land? There are many aspects to her, and her story is often misunderstood. During the evening Angharad will tell the First Branch (and touch on aspects of Rhiannon's story in the Third Branch) in sections and offer different ways of understanding Rhiannon - from literary, mythological, archaeological and cultural perspectives. Then, it's over to you to discuss and share further ideas and insights in small groups, before bringing your discussions back to the bubbling cauldron of inspiration so that we can all learn and contemplate further. 

The aim of each evening is to allow participants to become more familiar with each story in turn and to explore different ways of understanding the key female characters in the hope of stimulating creativity, ideas and discussion and to build a creative community. Men, women, non-binary - all are welcome.

These sessions are held in a relaxed, friendly, respectful and supportive space aimed at stimulating discussion and creativity. No previous experience is necessary, but it would be helpful to have a basic knowledge of the stories beforehand. So bring along a glass of wine and some nibbles, a cup of herbal tea and a cake or whatever feels like a bit of a treat, and join us for some fascinating discussions.
